Mordoom Keep
A ruined citadel in The Prelacy of Middenmark. It was once a prosperous, vibrant stronghold or citadel, but it is now abandoned because of its closeness to the Forbidden Zone and, more importantly, because it has become the apparent origin point of the Soul Fungus outbreak.
The keep is now described as being tainted by an unnatural fungal infection that can transform living creatures into mindless fungal zombies or Plaguewalkers. The infection is associated with eerie purple-glowing eyes, soul-like wisps trapped in luminescent green mold, and the belief that exposure through the eyes may transmit the corruption: “the eyes are the window to the soul.”
The site is officially off-limits by order of the Church of St. Ygg, and a secretive group called the Sporebane Brotherhood appears to be working against the fungal scourge. They are said to possess protective magic and some healing ability during the infection’s incubation period, though after incubation there is reportedly no cure.
Known approaches include the main gate, a postern gate reached by a dangerous narrow path near the cliff face, and a sewer pipe in the cliff face leading into sewers and caverns beneath the keep.
